Snake eats snake and Cape Cobras are quite ferocious snake eaters, Puff Adder probably being a favourite, well at least that is what we believe!

Travelling from Mata Mata camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park to the Nossob Camp via the dune road can often seem very boring but we love the dune roads as they often provide one with sightings you miss on the main routes.  This was one of those special sightings, when we were incredibly lucky to witness a Cape Cobra crossing the road in front us, grab and wrestle with a young Mole Snake right next to the roadside. The long grass made for photographing the scene rather challenging but hey who does not like a good challenge!

The young Mole Snake never had a chance even though he put up a good fight.  The Cape Cobra was very determined and was continuously biting down on the Mole Snake ensuring good envenomation.

What seemed like an age was actually only a few minutes and once the Cape Cobra was certain his prey was not going anywhere he started to pull it off deeper into the grass.
